How do you choose clip-on earrings?
Clip-on earrings attach to the earlobe with a hinged clip, no piercing needed. They are made for unpierced ears, and also for pierced ears that want a heavier earring without pulling on the hole. This collection brings together about forty pairs of earrings in stainless steel, acetate, brass and 925 sterling silver, from the Foglia to large colorful clip-ons. Each model's product page describes its fastening, clip or push back, so read it before ordering for unpierced ears.
Do clip-on earrings stay in place?
A good clip-on holds thanks to its clip and to the balance of the piece. A light earring can be worn all day, a heavier or longer earring needs a firm clip and should come off as soon as the lobe starts to pull. The Foglia, long 8 cm leaves whose upper part is stainless steel and whose petals are acetate or resin, are described on their product pages as wearable all day long despite their size. The Clio Blue clip-ons in colored acetate, inspired by the seventies, are worn the same way.
Stainless steel, acetate, brass or silver?
Stainless steel is light and does not tarnish, it comes plain or in ion-plated gold-tone steel. Acetate brings color, such as honey, red, green and blue. Gold-plated brass allows fine shapes and lucite cabochons. 925 sterling silver is the metal of the house, to be found in our silver earrings, our hoop earrings and our drop earrings, where clip-ons are fewer.
How do you wear clip-on earrings?
A clip-on goes on a dry lobe with the clip open, then closes with gentle pressure. Take it off before sleeping and before long phone calls, as the handset presses on it. A short clip-on is for everyday wear, a drop or colorful clip-on dresses up a simple outfit. An acetate long necklace in the same color makes a set. For a gift to someone whose ears you are not sure are pierced, a clip-on model is the safe choice.
How do you care for clip-on earrings?
Stainless steel and acetate are cleaned with lukewarm soapy water and dried with a soft cloth. Gold-plated brass should not be rubbed with an impregnated polishing cloth, which would wear away the gold plating, a soft dry cloth is enough. For 925 sterling silver, follow our silver care guide. Store each pair separately, as the clips scratch other jewelry, and keep acetate clip-ons in the shade, the sun fades them.
