What is a long necklace?
A long necklace falls over the bust and often down to the waist. It is worn over a plain dress, a sweater or a shirt, and it can be wrapped twice around the neck to become a short necklace. At Clio Blue, the long necklace comes in boldly colored acetate, in gold-plated chain or in 925 sterling silver, sometimes with beads or a pendant. This page brings together about a hundred of them.
Why choose acetate long necklaces?
Cellulose acetate is a material derived from cotton, light and warm to the touch, that can be dyed all the way through. It gives thick links without the weight of metal, and colors that no metal offers, such as amber, honey, tortoiseshell effect, English rose, olive green and navy. Our Seventies line revisits the spirit of the seventies with chunky acetate link long necklaces, to wear alone or layered. They are cleaned with a soft, slightly damp cloth and stored away from the sun, which fades the colors.
How do you wear a long necklace?
A long necklace is worn with an open neckline or over a turtleneck, and it sits at the center. One long necklace is enough with a printed outfit, two long necklaces of different lengths can be layered over a plain outfit. It pairs with hoop earrings or short earrings, not with a large pendant that would compete with it. On the wrist, an acetate bangle from the same line echoes the color.
Long necklace or short necklace?
The 925 sterling silver necklace rests on the collarbone and stays discreet, the long necklace is noticed and elongates the silhouette. With a low neckline, the short necklace highlights the neck. With a high collar, a shirt or a sweater, the long necklace adds a vertical line. The two can be worn together if the metal is the same, the short one close to the neck, the long one on the bust.
How do you choose the length of a long necklace?
A long necklace of 70 to 80 cm falls below the bust, a long necklace of 90 cm or more reaches the waist and can be doubled. Take into account your height and what you wear underneath, a long necklace on a petite figure is best doubled. When the length is listed on the product page, it is measured including the clasp. Store a long necklace flat or hanging, never balled up at the bottom of a box, as acetate links scratch one another and a fine chain gets knotted.
